Rachel Johnson Daughtry

    Rachel Lee Johnson Daughtry was born in Johnston County on July 2nd, 1944 to the late Elam Ober Johnson and LeeBelle Watkins Johnson. She married her husband of 62 years, Ned Wilson Daughtry on July 5th, 1961. They had two children, Portia Gay Daughtry and Terry Wilson Daughtry and raised them in her hometown of Smithfield. Mrs. Daughtry was a devoted member of the Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church.

    Mrs. Daughtry loved spending time at the beaches of Harkers Island, completing puzzles, reading, altering her clothes for the perfect fit, and visiting with her family and cat. You could never find her without a word search book in her purse or tasteful jewelry dazzling her outfit. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, her giving personality, her deep love and dedication to family and friends, and her affection for her “grandbabies.”

    She died August 7th, 2023 in the home of her daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons. Mrs. Daughtry spent her last few days with her family, eating dinner, watching a movie, and having quality time together. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. Mrs. Daughtry is preceded in death by her parents, sister Patsy Twigg, and son. She was 79 years old.

    Visitation is planned for 10:00am August 11th, 2023 at Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church in Smithfield, NC with a funeral service following at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church, 4430 Brogden Road, Smithfield NC, 27577.
