Smithfield – Tony Melvin Mitchell, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in his home of Smithfield. Born, September, 4, 1949, in Wilson County, he was a son of the late Louise Mitchell and Didy Littleton Mitchell. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Deans Mitchell, sisters; Gladys Jones, Katie Rose, Elanor Rose Glover, Carolyn Brantley, Jane Howell and stepson, James Brantley.
Tony was a kind, caring and good-hearted man. He worked hard during his career as a carpenter. In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching old westerns on tv. He will be missed by his family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Upper Black Creek Church Cemetery in Lucama, with Mark Rose officiating.
He is survived by his brother, Royce Mitchell of Selma, sister, Betty Lou Underhill of Selma, step children; Rhonda & Lisa, many nieces and nephews as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
