William Atlas Driver, Jr.

    William Atlas Driver, Jr., 83, went to be with Jesus Tuesday, March 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Middlesex, North Carolina on October 25, 1940, the son of the late William Atlas Driver and Glennie Wooten Driver.

    In 1987, William founded The Bumper Place, located in Wendell, until he retired in 2007; however, he continued to be active with The Bumper Place until 2018. Prior to opening The Bumper Place, William worked for and helped expand Capital Bumper Company in Raleigh, North Carolina and Richmond, Virgina. In 1957, William moved from his then-home in Wilson to Raleigh to help support his family. William served as a Deacon at Antioch Baptist Church, as well as President of Cowboys for Christ, Heart of Carolina Chapter for many years. Additionally, William helped to establish local cowboy churches in Johnston and Wake Counties with the North American Cowboy Church Network. William was also very proud of his service in the U.S. Army National Guard.

    Visitation will be held at 1:00 on Monday, April 1, 2024, followed by the funeral service at 2:00, at Antioch Baptist Church, located at 8490 NC Hwy 39, Middlesex, NC 27557 and officiated by Dr. Josh Franklin. Interment will follow located at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton.

    William is survived by his wife, Deborah Driver (Debbie) of 34 years, sons Barry Allen Driver and wife, Kim of Apex, William Daniel Driver and wife, Tammy of Zebulon and daughter, Tiffany Driver Clark and husband, Ronnie of Selma, grandchildren Curtis Driver, Grayson Driver, Owen Driver, Reagan Clark, Leland Driver and Christian Driver, brothers Jerry Driver and Garland Driver, sisters Judy Turnage and Connie Hinnant, as well as many nieces, nephews and honorary family members.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dementia Alliance of North Carolina, 9131 Anson Way, Suite 207, Raleigh, North Carolina 27615.
