Wilson Earl “W.E.” Blackmon

    Wilson Earl Blackmon, 84, passed away on May 19, 2024.

    Wilson was born December 16, 1939, in Benson, NC, the son of Otha B. Blackmon and Myrtle Mae Tew. He started working in construction as a teenager, digging ponds for local farmers. He went on to serve in the 82nd Airborne in the U. S. Army. After being honorably discharged, he went on to pursue a career in site work, utilities, and heavy highway construction under W. E. Blackmon Construction Company, Inc. During his 60-year career, he worked in NC, SC, and Virginia, retiring in 2010. He also owned an interest in J. P. Rogers Construction Inc.

    After his retirement, he took great pride in consulting with other contractors in the area. He held an Unlimited-Unclassified License until 2018. He was a philanthropist, donating his time and money to many local school projects and churches in the area. He was an avid car/truck aficionado and loved racing. He was a great friend to many and enjoyed retirement on his farm.

    Wilson Blackmon is survived by his wife, Sharon Dixon Blackmon; son, Tony (Sheila) Blackmon; daughters, Sheila Blackmon (Rodney) Taylor and Sherri Blackmon (Trey) Hill; as well as 7 grandchildren, James (Cara) Taylor, Will Blackmon, Sarandon Taylor (Alec) Williams, Joshua Taylor, Savannah Taylor, Cody Blackmon, and Chase Hill and 3 great grandchildren, Chloe Taylor, Carissa Taylor, Boone Williams, and Emery Taylor. He is also survived by sisters, Patricia Blackmon (Cliff) Massengill of Hampstead, NC and Gail Blackmon of Lexington, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Goldie Blackmon Fish, and son, Troy Blackmon.

    A visitation will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US 70 Business West, Clayton, NC 27520 on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 11:00am to 12:30pm. A celebration of life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00pm.
