Benson, NC: Mrs. Careleen Parker Blackmon, age 89, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 23, 2021, following a brief illness, at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield, NC. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM, Monday, September 27, 2021 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson, NC. Rev. Glenn McCullen will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Blackmon was born on October 16, 1931 in Johnston County, NC to the late James E. and Madie Johnson Parker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Theodore Blackmon, sisters, Melvereen Blackman and Myrtis Johnson and her brother, J.E. Parker. Mrs. Blackmon retired from the textiles industry, was a waitress, farmer and later in life a caretaker. She was so proud to receive her GED in 1980 from Johnston Community College, and worked until the age of 87. She was a member of Benson Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church in Benson, NC.
Mrs Blackmon is survived by her daughter, Gail Dunn; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Kim Blackmon all of Benson; grandchildren, Donald Dale Dunn, Karen Blackmon and Damion, Cale Dunn, Michael Blackmon and Kelli, Lindsey Tart and Joey, Madison Blackmon, Jessica and Katie Pfeil; great-grandchildren, Justin Dunn (Kendall) Hannah Stancil (Brandon) Colby Jones (Hayley) Cannon Raynor, Ryan Blackmon, Mylee Blackmon, Callie Dunn, Letti Tart and Della Blackmon; great great-granddaughter, Zadie Ann Dunn; sister, Jeanie Williamson of Colorado; brother-in-law, Willie Blackman and sister-in-law, Billie Carol Parker; and a town full of friends.
The family will receive friends 1:30PM-2:45PM, Monday, September 27, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC.
