Martha Emogene “Gene” Talton Pittman, age 88, passed away at home surrounded by her family on June 14, 2018. Mrs. Pittman was born November 17, 1929 in Smithfield community to the late Henry Lee and Martha Peele Talton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Tommy” Edwin Pittman of Pine Level, whom she married on August 21, 1949; and six of her siblings. She graduated from Smithfield High School in 1947 and then attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson for bookkeeping from 1947-1948. Gene worked 69 years doing auto title work for various businesses including Mann Auto Auction and Kendall Auto Auction in Goldsboro, Kenly Auto Auction and Aycock Auto Auction in Kenly and finally retired with Manheim Auto Auction in Kenly working from January 2006 to March of 2017. She was also bookkeeper for her youngest son at Scott’s Motor Cars of Pine Level for many years. Gene loved her children, grandchild and great grandchildren more than anything in the world. She was in every sense of the word the matriarch of her family. She was a member of the Pine Level First United Methodist Church, Pine Level, NC.
Visitation with the family will be held on Monday evening, June 18, 2018 at Parrish Funeral Home. 1351 South Pollock Street, Selma, NC from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Crocker Cemetery at a later date with Rev. Lyn Renfrow officiating.
Surviving are sons, Bruce Thomas Pittman and wife Darlene of Princeton and Scott Talton Pittman of Pine Level; daughter, Susan Pittman Will and husband RJ of Wilson; granddaughter, Gena Pittman Phillips and husband Brandon of Princeton; three great grandchildren, Addyson, Brenna and Gavin Phillips of Princeton; sister, Faye Talton Barnes of Smithfield; and several nieces and nephews.
