    Jo-Anne Lucas Hinson, age 87, of Smithfield passed from this earthly life into her eternal home on April 27, 2018. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Anna King and Joseph Howard Lucas. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Howard Lucas. Mrs. Hinson was the faithful wife of Nolan Hinson who preceded her in death in 2015 after 60 years of marriage.
    Surviving are four children, Mary Ann Yansom and husband Virgil, Robert Hinson, Patricia Hinson Harris, Amy Stanley and husband Jamie, all of Smithfield. She has six grandchildren, Stephen Harris of Asheville,
    Becca Harris of Greenville, Ben Yansom and wife Austin, Matthew Yansom, Adam Stanley (fiance’ Claire Stiehm) and Anna Stanley, all of Smithfield and one great granddaughter, Mary Catherine Yansom of Smithfield.
    Jo-Anne was retired registered nurse, who dedicated her life career to serving others, she retired as a Nursing Supervisor at Johnston Memorial Hospital in 1997, after 25 years of service. Prior to that she served at
    Duke Medical Center. She was a naval nurse in her early years where she served in California. She served as a nurse for a total of 42 years.
    Jo-Anne had a servant’s heart. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church where she served many roles from Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Deaconess. She was an Elder Emeritus and served the World Outreach Committee faithfully. She was always active in her children and grandchildren’s lives, always eager to help with Girl Scouts, field trips and babysitting. She loved serving others and never missed a chance to be with fellow church family and friends. The highlight of her last few months was her beautiful new great granddaughter.
    A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00 Am in Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro with a Memorial Service following Monday at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church in Smithfield. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 1-2 PM.
    Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers who surrounded her with their love and care during her last years.
