Joseph Max Tyo, Sr.

    Joseph Max Tyo, Sr. age 91 passed away on January 26, 2018 in Fort Myers, FL Joe was born on 6/11/1926 in Massena, NY to the later Albert and Margaret (Lizette) Tyo. He attended school there and in 1944 he enlisted in the US Army. He was in the 11th Airborne Div, 188th Parachute Inf Regiment. He was shipped out to Luzon in the Philippines. He remained there until 2 weeks after the bombing of Japan, He was then deployed to Japan until his discharge May 22, 1946. On August 24, 1962 he was awarded the Bronze Star for ground combat During WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations.
    Upon returning home he began his lifelong career as an automobile mechanic/service manager. He met and then married Margaret C Gardner in Massena, NY in November 1947. They raised four children. He was a courageous, strong and loving husband and father. His family was his life. After 64 years of marriage Margaret passed away on October 23, 2011. He is survived by his four children Joseph, Jr (Linda) Tyo, Tampa FL Suanne (Alfred) Gotsch, Fort Myers, FL, Cynthia Bramlett, Garner, NC and Gregory (Tanya) Tyo, BelAir MD his 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Agatha Sharlow, and Agnes Guimond.
    His funeral will be on Wednesday 2/21/2018 at 10:00am at St Ann Catholic Church in Smithfield NC. His internment will be immediately after at the Evergreen Cemetery in Princeton, NC with a military honor guard. A luncheon will follow at the St Ann parish center. Donations can be made in his name to the charity of one’s choice.
