Nancy Jones Batten

    Nancy Jones Batten passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 in the home of her daughter in Saint Johns, Florida. Nancy was the daughter of the late Dock Pharoh and Launa Phillips Jones, being born in Beulah Township, Johnston County, NC on January 13, 1930.
    Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George Leemon Batten, of Clayton, NC, and her second husband of 10 years, Noggie Smith, of Goldsboro, NC. Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Clifford Boyd Batten, of Clayton, NC and brothers, Robert, Roy, and Charlie Jones, and sisters, Gilda Pittman, Marie Pittman, and Annette Jones.
    Nancy is survived by a sister, Lorrain Davis of Kenly, NC and by a twin brother, George Jones, of Laurel, MD.
    Nancy has two surviving children, George L. Batten, Jr. and wife Kathy O’Connor Batten, of Madison, GA and daughter, Deborah Batten Lesher and husband Dean W. Lesher, of Saint Johns, FL. She has seven grandchildren: Brigid Batten Bollweg and husband Nick Bollweg, of Atlanta, GA, Kathleen Batten Wheeler and husband Patrick Wheeler, of Tokyo, Japan, Jason Batten of Atlanta, GA, and Reilly Batten, of Marietta, GA, Jennifer Carol Beer and husband Cesar Pilco-Romero, of Tarija, Bolivia, South America, Cathy Beer Terry and husband David Terry, of Syracuse, NY, and Christopher Beer, of Chambersburg, PA.
    Nancy has seven great-grandchildren: Evangeline Bollweg, Jackson and Logan Wheeler, Breanna Beer, and Cesar, Gabriel, and Soraya Pilco-Beer.
    Nancy, along with her husband George, were lifelong members of Horne Memorial Methodist Church, in Clayton, NC. Nancy was the office manager of the family business, Batten Radio and TV Service in Clayton, NC and she worked for GTE Sylvania and Data General in Johnston County, NC.
    Nancy spent her lifetime caring for other people and she was a very selfless person. She loved gardening and genealogy and she was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Her greatest love was for her savior and for her family.
    Visitation will be Friday, April 6, 2018 at Parrish Funeral Home, 1351 S. Pollock Street, Selma, NC from 6-8 pm with services being at Parrish Funeral Home on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11 am. Interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton, NC.
