    Smithfield – (Bruce) Sherrill Thompson, age 75, passed peacefully at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in Benson on July 8, 2021. Born August 26, 1945 in Johnston County, he was the youngest child of the late Millard Preston, Sr. and Pearlie Overbee Thompson. He is preceded in death by a brother, M. P. Thompson, Jr.; sisters, Claybourn Snipes, Gladys Mobley, Lissie Langdon, Beulah Peedin and Callie Thompson.

    Sherrill was a lifetime member of Stevens Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer and deacon for several years. Most of his working years were in construction, and then in industrial maintenance at Raychem, Data General and TT Electronics.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Ownley and Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Burial will follow in the A.W. Peedin Cemetery on Janie Road, Selma. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday just prior to the service at the funeral home.

    Surviving are his wife of 56 years, (Davie) Jean Peedin Thompson; son, Tim Thompson and wife Kathleen of Selma; daughter, Leighanna Thompson (Worley) of Selma; grandchildren, Jessica Worley and fiancé Nolan Kuesel, Preston Thompson and Michael Giggey; great granddaughter, MacKenzie Giggey; brother, Harold Thompson and wife Cathy of Clayton; and sister, Connie Godwin of Pine Level.

    Flowers are appreciated but in lieu of flowers the family would welcome donations for final expenses, c/o Jean Thompson.

    The family extends special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Johnston UNC Health Smithfield, Liberty Commons Nursing Home and Liberty Commons Hospice Service.
