Overnight Closures Scheduled For N.C. 50 Bridge Work

GARNER, N.C. – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will conduct lane closures on portions of N.C. 50 and U.S. 70 to demolish the existing N.C. 50 bridge.

Starting July 12 at 6 p.m., the southbound lane of N.C. 50 (Benson Road) will close between Plaza Circle and Lake Drive to switch traffic onto the new bridge over U.S. 70. Flagging operations will be utilized through the closure. The lane is scheduled to reopen by July 13 at 6 a.m.

Additionally, crews will conduct alternating closures on U.S. 70 from New Rand Road to Vandora Springs Road between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting July 12 and lasting about two weeks, weather permitting.

Both lanes of U.S. 70 westbound will close first. During this time, westbound traffic should detour via New Rand Road, East Garner Road, Benson Road and Umstead Lane to return to U.S. 70.

Once work is complete, both lanes of U.S. 70 eastbound will close. During this time, eastbound traffic will detour via the exit ramp to Vandora Spring Road, West Garner Road and New Rand Road to return to U.S. 70.

There will be a period when both directions of U.S. 70 will be closed overnight as the middle section of the bridge is being demolished.

Motorists should expect delays, follow posted detours and use caution in the work zone.
