WILSON’S MILLS – Wilson’s Mills Police have obtained an arrest warrant against the owner of a dog critically injured in a traffic accident. The dog was later euthanized due to the severity of its injuries.

Around 11:38am Thursday, police officers were notified a dog that had been struck by an 18-wheeler in the 4300 block of Wilson’s Mills Road, Smithfield, in the Wilson’s Mills city limits.

Two officers responded and located the severely injured animal in a ditch trying to crawl. Police said the back legs on the dog appeared to be broken. Police then went to the residence of Benjamin Hunter Evans, age 31, in the 4300 block of Wilson’s Mills Road.

Evans reportedly told officers he was the owner of the dog but was not coming outside to render aid. He allegedly stated, “F**k him. He’s dead now.”

Police said they told Evans his dog was still alive and needed to check on him immediately. Evans allegedly replied, “If you want to be a hero, go ahead!”

Animal control responded and transported the dog to a local veterinarian. Due to the severity of the injuries, the dog was euthanized.

Police have now obtained a warrant for the arrest of Benjamin Hunter Evans. Once located Evans will be charged with felony animal cruelty.

  1. What a terrible person. That poor dog didn’t deserve to have such a useless human as their owner.

  2. I think this guy got a ticket for being rude to the police. But since the victim was a dog even libs won’t care

  3. Arrest him for not taking care of injured dog, but we celebrate taking the life of an unborn child as a ‘choice’
    Some seriously messed up priorities!!!!

  4. You can judge a society by how the people treat the most helpless living creatures. This man will get nothing more than a slap on the wrist from a judge. If you ask me they euthanized the wrong one. Yep I said it.

    • I agree with you. It says a lot about the owner to let his dog lay in a ditch suffering when he/she needed him the most. He deserves to be charged to the fullest and never own another animal again.
Thank you to Wilson’s Mills PD for doing something about it!
