Pasquotank County Woman Wins $1 Million Playing Powerball
RALEIGH – Janet Cornelius of Elizabeth City took a chance on a $2 Powerball ticket and won a $1 million prize.
Cornelius matched numbers on all five white balls in Wednesday’s drawing. The odds of that happening are 1 in 11.6 million.
She bought her lucky Powerball ticket from the Hop-In Citgo on North Road Street in Elizabeth City.
Cornelius arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to claim the prize. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $720,100.
Powerball is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
