ANGIER – A resident new to the Angier area died after he was struck by an SUV on December 13 as he walked in the roadway.

The crash occurred just before 6:45 a.m. in the 300 block of North Raleigh Street (N.C. Highway 55).

Trooper K. F. Farmer with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Troop B District 8 was the lead investigator on the scene.

Angier-Black River Fire Department, Harnett County EMS, Angier Police Department, Harnett County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation and a reconstruction team responded to the scene where they found Juan Carlos Reyes, 48, of Angier lying in the street after being fatally struck by an SUV.

“This was a single vehicle collision,” said Farmer. “The pedestrian had just recently relocated to Angier from the Smithfield area. The family of the deceased have been notified of his death.”

The victim was dressed head-to-toe in camouflage clothing and was walking in the road with his back to traffic, according to Farmer. Surveillance video at businesses in the area were able to capture the incident.

“While the case remains under investigation, there are no charges being considered at this time,” Farmer said.
