MEADOW – A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 40 in southern Johnston County. The accident was reported at 11:23pm Wednesday, near the NC 96 Exit in the Meadow community.
The victim was identified as David John Shannon, age 36, of Raleigh. Shannon was in the westbound travel lanes when he was fatally struck by a box truck.
The driver of the box truck stopped at the scene. No charges are anticipated.
The State Highway Patrol, Meadow Fire Department, Johnston County EMS, and Johnston County Medical Examiner responded to the scene.
