A slow moving vehicle got the attention of a Selma police officer Friday night. Around 9:00pm the officer was traveling on East Lizzie Street and spotted a Pontiac Grand Prix turning on White Street traveling between 2 and 3 miles per hour. The officer got behind the vehicle which had now driven onto the curb.
The officer turned on his blue lights but the driver, still traveling 3 mph, failed to stop until reaching a nearby driveway.
Police said the driver, identified as 47 year-old Raymond Sykes of Spindale Street, admitted to drinking two 40 ounces beers. He registered 0.14 on the breathalyzer, above the legal limit of 0.08, according to a police report.
Sykes was charged with driving while impaired, driving on a revoked license, and having fictitious tags on his vehicle. Bail was set at $3,500. He was ordered to appear in court on April 24th on the charges.
