Police: Domestic Dispute Led To Intentional Crash On U.S. 70
GOLDSBORO, N.C. — What initially appeared to be a traffic accident on U.S. 70 West Tuesday night has led to an attempted murder charge after investigators determined the collision was intentional.
Goldsboro Police responded around 10:42 p.m. to the 1200 block of U.S. 70 West following reports of a crash with injuries.
During the investigation, police concluded the collision stemmed from a domestic disturbance involving the two drivers.
According to authorities, Jareyon Powell, 20, allegedly chased a vehicle driven by NyAsia Faison, 20, westbound on U.S. 70 before intentionally striking her vehicle.
Police said the impact caused Faison to lose control and crash.
Investigators said Powell then lost control of his own vehicle, which overturned. Powell was ejected during the rollover.
Both drivers were transported to UNC Health Wayne for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Powell was later transferred by ambulance to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
Based on the investigation, Goldsboro Police obtained warrants charging Powell with first-degree attempted murder, driving while impaired, driving after consuming alcohol while under age 21, interfering with emergency communications, reckless driving, and driving while license revoked for an impaired driving revocation.
Authorities said the warrants will be served once Powell is released from medical care.
