Police: Impaired Driver Causes 4 Car Crash While On The Way To School

Police have charged a 36 year-old woman with causing a four car accident while she was reportedly headed to North Johnston High School to pick up her child.

The accident happened last Tuesday, Dec. 5th on US 301 at the railroad crossing in Downtown Selma.

Selma Police said Barbara Masters Woodall, 36, of Stevens Chapel Road, Smithfield was traveling northbound on US 301 in a 2001 Acura when she rear-ended a GMC SUV stopped for the train crossing.  The SUV, driven by Jennifer Butler Talton of Selma, was pushed into a 1992 Chevy truck operated by Julius Lee Spoon of Selma. His Chevy was then forced into the back of a 1996 Freightliner driven by Leslie Larson of Lucama.

Woodall and Talton, plus an adult passenger in her SUV all sustained minor injuries.

Police suspect Woodall may have been under the influence of prescription medication at the time of the 2:13pm accident.  Woodall reportedly told officers she was headed to North Johnston High to pick up her son at the time of wreck.

Woodall sustained a broken leg in the crash and was taken to Johnston Medical Center then transferred to Wake Med.  Because of her injuries, police did not arrest Woodall but instead issued her a citation for driving while impaired and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She was ordered to appear in court on the charges on February 26th.
