Police Make Shoplifting Arrest

SMITHFIELD – Police officers arrested a 42 year-old man on theft charges. On Feb. 18 around 4:31pm, officers responded to Outlet Center Drive after an employee at Polo Ralph Lauren reported a shoplifting incident.

Police said they found the suspect, Jhon Freddy Gonzalez-Bernal, nearby and noticed a large bulge under his clothing. They determined the bulge was some of the clothing items he had allegedly stolen from Polo Ralph Lauren and Levis Outlet.

Six jeans and nine polo shirts, valued at $250.20, were recovered.

Gonzalez-Bernal, who refused to provide his address according to an arrest report, was charged with two felony counts of larceny by removing an anti-theft device and two misdemeanor counts of larceny. He was given a $70,000 secured bond.

  1. Why was there not another charge for refusing to provide his current address? He could be wanted elsewhere on many other, more serious charges already. I hope they got his true name and searched his history carefully…
