Public Meeting On Downtown Smithfield Traffic Changes Postponed To March 23rd

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Due to the threat of inclement weather, the Town of Smithfield’s joint meeting with the Town’s DOT Task Force to discuss upcoming roadway and traffic changes affecting downtown has been postponed to Monday, March 23rd, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Smithfield Town Hall Council Chambers, 350 W. Market Street. Downtown business owners and interested residents are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will focus on upcoming roadway and traffic changes affecting downtown Smithfield, including NCDOT’s plan to remove on-street parking along East Market Street (U.S. 70 Business) between Second and North Seventh streets as a safety measure.

In response, the Town of Smithfield and the Market Street Task Force have been working with NCDOT on the Town’s plan to implement one-way street pairs on Market Street and nearby downtown streets. The changes are intended to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and create opportunities for additional parking in the downtown area.

During the meeting, officials will share project plans, provide updates on traffic and safety improvements, and answer questions from business owners and community members.
