Some Clayton neighborhoods have been hit by thieves looking for easy prey: unlocked cars.
Overnight Tuesday, July 14th into the morning of Wednesday, July 14th, police discovered 15 unlocked cars had been broken into in the Parkside Village area, Amelia Station apartments and a group of apartments at the intersection of Barber Mill and NC42. All vehicles were left unsecured.
All of the cars were clearly rummaged through, and a purse, iPhone XSE and charger, $200 in cash, a pocket knife and assorted change in cup holders were stolen.
There is no suspect information at this time. If anyone in these apartment complexes has home security footage and may have seen suspicious activity, please call Clayton Police at 919-553-4611 or call 911.
Clayton Police cannot emphasize enough – don’t make it easy for thieves! Always lock your car, even in your driveway. Do not leave valuables in your car. If you have no other option at least hide them out of sight.
