Report: Driver Jailed, Car Confiscated After Fleeing From Clayton Police

CLAYTON — A 2012 Audi was seized and its driver jailed following a high-speed chase that crossed county lines Saturday night.

Clayton Police Chief Greg Tart said the incident occurred Dec. 27 when an officer clocked a vehicle traveling 75 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone on Clayton Boulevard near Town Centre Boulevard.

The driver, identified as 45-year-old Marcus Deale Boykin of Clinton, was reportedly operating the Audi when the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, police said the vehicle made a U-turn on Clayton Boulevard and fled westbound.

Boykin reportedly refused to stop and continued driving into Wake County before eventually stopping in a business parking lot, where he was taken into custody.

Police said Boykin was driving with a suspended license stemming from a prior driving while impaired conviction.

He was arrested and charged with speeding, DWI, driving while license revoked, felony fleeing to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, and expired/no inspection.

The Audi was seized by police under North Carolina’s Run and Done law.

Boykin was transported to the Johnston County Detention Center and issued a $50,000 secured bond.
