Report: Son Exploited Money From Elderly Mother
SMITHFIELD – A Smithfield man is facing criminal charges for allegedly defrauding a large some of money from his disabled mother.
Douglas Ryan Parrish Jr., age 52, of the 8700 block of Brogden Road, Smithfield was arrested May 13 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office following a two month investigation.
According to investigators, Parrish was the caretaker, and had power of attorney over finances, for his 81 year-old mother. Authorities allege Parrish diverted his mother’s money to his own personal use.
Bank statements and other financial records were examined.
Between September 2023 and now, Parrish is alleged to have taken funds in excess of $100,000 from his mother.
Parrish is charged with felony exploitation of a disabled/elder adult.
He was given a $50,000 secured bond.

Shouldn’t the bond at least be double what he stole? He stole $100,000 so why in the world is his bond only $50,000? Please make it make sense. This trash should have no bond, let his butt sit in jail until trial.
I agree with you 100% on the bond. I also agree about no bail for this POS.
While I am in no way defending this POS, this is what happens when the parents spoil a kid to death and let him get away with literally everything. His mother doesn’t deserve this type of treatment and probably knew better than to appoint him as her POA.
