CLAYTON – A Johnston County man claims items worth thousands of dollars were stolen from his car after it was repossessed.
On January 11, the 56 year-old victim reported his car was repossessed while it was parked at a location on US 70 near Clayton.
The man claims $22,000 in Canadian one ounce gold coins, $26,000 in Mexican gold currency, $30,000 in Australian coins, and $3,000 in prescription medication were stolen from a blue bank bag in the vehicle. Combined the coins were valued at $81,000.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has assigned a detective to investigate the alleged theft.
