SELMA – A rezoning request at a business intersection on NC Highway 42 East could be the future home to a hardware store. County commissioners, at their February meeting, agreed to rezone three parcels of land on the northeast and southwest corners of NC 42 and Thanksgiving Fire Road from Agricultural Residential (AR) to General Business (GB).
Lipscomb Development LLC petitioned the county for the rezoning. Two tracts are owned by Black & Grey LLC of Clayton and one parcel is owned by Big Rooster LLC of Clayton.
The intended use of the property was not discussed during the commission meeting but minutes of the December 20, 2022 planning board meeting indicate one of the envisioned uses of the property is a hardware store.
During the planning board meeting, one resident expressed concerns for traffic safety in the area and wrecks at the intersection. The intersection has been the location of a number of serious accidents in recent years.
In a motion by Commissioner Fred Smith and seconded by Commissioner Ted Godwin, the rezoning was unanimously approved.
