SBI Charges Former Police Records Clerk With Obtaining Property By False Pretenses

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A former part-time records clerk with the Graham Police Department has been charged after investigators said he submitted timesheets for hours he did not work.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said Jeffrey Paul Benes was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of obtaining property by false pretenses.

The Graham Police Department requested the SBI investigation after questions were raised about Benes’ timesheets.

According to the SBI, agents determined Benes allegedly signed timesheets between March and June 2026 claiming hours he had not worked.

Benes was processed at the Alamance County Jail and received a $10,000 bond.

He is scheduled to make a first court appearance next week.
