Sheriff Steve Bizzell Receives VFW Public Servant Award

Members of VFW Post 5886 in Smithfield recognized Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell on Tuesday, March 2nd with the 2021 VFW Public Servant Award for Law Enforcement.

Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects law enforcement and emergency services personnel to receive the VFW Public Servant Awards.

Smithfield VFW Post 5886 Commander Robert Boyette said, “Sheriff Bizzell, his team of men and women and law enforcement in general, are very much a part of the safety of our nation and should be valued as much as our men and women in the military.  I would hate to think of how our society would be without the protection and assistance of the law enforcement community. Sheriff Bizzell has led his team commendably during a difficult year of hardships including tragedies, the global pandemic and unpopular mandates.  He exemplifies true leadership and we are fortunate to have the best Sheriff in NC here in Johnston County.”

“I will never be as worthy of any award as our Veterans whom served for the freedom we all enjoy,” Sheriff Bizzell stated.

Candidates for the VFW Public Service Award must have demonstrated recognition by their colleagues or those they serve, consistent excellence in the performance of their duties and consistent dedication to their official responsibilities over a period of years and continuous growth in responsibilities and skills within their profession.
