Sheriff’s SAFE Team Targets Speeding On I-40

JCSO: Drivers Clocked At 114, 122 And 130 MPH

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. – Three drivers were cited for excessive speeding during a Johnston County Sheriff’s Office traffic enforcement operation over the weekend, including one motorist who was clocked at 130 mph.

The Sheriff’s Office S.A.F.E. Team conducted traffic safety operations on Interstate 40 and in the McGee’s Crossroads community.

Deputies reported stopping one driver traveling 114 mph in a 70 mph zone. That driver was also charged with driving while impaired.

A second motorist was cited after being clocked at 122 mph in a 70 mph zone, while a third was traveling 130 mph in a 70 mph zone, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Steve Bizzell said deputies will continue conducting traffic enforcement throughout Johnston County.

“Our Deputies will continue patrolling our county roadways and conducting regular safety enforcements to protect all Johnston County citizens and all motorists,” Bizzell said. “Please slow down, stay alert, and never drive impaired!”
