SMITHFIELD – Police are investigating a shooting Wednesday night in East Smithfield.
Police Chief Keith Powell said an older couple was riding in their car on Massey Street when a passing vehicle opened fire. Their car was struck by multiple rounds but fortunately they were not injured.
Smithfield Police are searching for the suspect vehicle, a dark colored passenger car operated by an unknown black male. Chief Powell said the shooting appears to have been random and there is no known motive.
