BUIES CREEK – Right-handed pitcher Mason Smith received recognition on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the group announced Tuesday afternoon.

Smith, a redshirt sophomore from Denver, N.C., made 12 starts and 14 appearances on the mound for the Camels this year, his first season in Buies Creek. He led the team in innings pitched (61.0) and was second on the squad in strikeouts (60).

The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, baseball players must participate in 90 percent of games played, or a pitcher must make at least 17 starts or pitch 35 innings. All players must also have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA to qualify.

Majoring in sport management, Smith threw a complete game shutout against CAA foe Towson on April 26. He had six strikeouts and allowed just three hits in the game, throwing the first complete game shutout for Campbell since 2021.
