Smithfield Police are investigating the late-night robbery of a convenience store. It happened shortly after 11:00pm Wednesday at the Speedway at 2103 S. Brightleaf Boulevard.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said a lone black male suspect entered the business with his face covered. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the clerk hand over money. The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A Johnston County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was brought to the scene and tracked the suspect about 3 blocks until loosing the trail. No injuries were reported.
