SMITHFIELD – Officers are investigating after a Smithfield home was struck by gunfire. On Tuesday, March 14th around 8:40pm, several shots were fired in the 800 block of East Street. One shot struck a residence occupied by a 74 year-old man and 56 year-old woman.
The bullet entered their home damaged a wall, window, and mirror. Police found evidence of approximately a half dozen shots being fired from a 9mm gun but only one shot struck the home.
No injuries were reported. Detectives do not believe the residence was not targeted.
Investigators are following up on leads developed in the case this week. At last report, no charges had been filed.
