Smithfield Mayor Andy Moore Files For Re-Election

SMITHFIELD – Incumbent Mayor Andy Moore filed Monday, July 7 at the Johnston County Board of Elections Office, officially launching his campaign for another two‑year term in Smithfield.
Mayor Moore was accompanied by his wife, Lydia, and their children, Hampton, Griffin and Whitley Kate.
“I am humbled to stand again as a candidate for mayor,” said Moore. “Smithfield has been my home since birth. It’s where I’ve built a life and raised my family. Together we’ve achieved remarkable progress, and I’m energized to build on that success for all our residents.”
The filing period for the 2025 municipal elections remains open until noon on Friday, July 18.

If youre happy with life in Smithfield during Moore’s term (16% increase in crime, 11% increase in utility bills, -19% return on economic incentives, 32% est increase in illegals, 23% increase in government spending, 71% increase in closed sessions unavailable to the public) then by all means, keep voting for him! #MAGA #VoteOutIncumbents
Of course he did—because the good ol’ boys will always keep each other in power as long as it benefits them. What we really need are fresh faces with new ideas. Without change, the issues we’re facing will never be addressed, let alone fixed.
This town has made it clear it doesn’t prioritize its residents. The focus seems to be solely on generating revenue through endless cookie-cutter developments, while real problems affecting the community are ignored.
What really stands out is the town’s 2023–2024 general fund report showing a balance of $17,629,320—110.29%. For context, the state only requires municipalities to keep a minimum of 8%, or 25% in areas facing significant challenges. So why is our town sitting on that much money instead of investing it in fixing infrastructure or supporting the people who live here?
no term limits? what a surprise…
He never supported my business and Downtown is an utter mess. Great job Andy!
