Summer Camp Registration Open At JCC

Fun options for elementary, middle and high school kids
Cooking, CSI, biotechnology, robotics and more!

Johnston Community College is offering several fun summer camps for kids in elementary, middle, and high school. Visit www.johnstoncc.edu/summercamp to register. Campers need to dress comfortably for the weather each day and wear tennis shoes. All campers are responsible for bringing their own bottled drink, lunch, and snack.

Here’s this year’s camp lineup.

Bad to the Bones: CSI Camp – $153

Open to rising 7th – 9th graders

Dig into the fascinating world of forensic science. Learn how to search for and lift fingerprints, process a crime scene, test for blood and much more!

Dates: June 10-13, (M/T/W/Th)

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Location: Johnston Community College, Public Safety Services Complex

The Mission Moon Challenge – $163

Open to rising 2nd – 5th graders

What do you need to know about the Moon to live there? Design and construct a model using LEGO elements and motorized parts! Students will create a model using LEGO WeDO 2.0 technologies and a poster about the team experience. Learn teamwork skills and core values.

Dates: June 24-27, (M/T/W/Th), or July 15 – 18 (M/T/W/Th)

VEX ROBOTICS Camp – $163

Open to rising 6th – 9th graders

Walk through the design and build a mobile robot to play a sport-like game. During this process learn key STEM principles, and robotics concepts. VEX ROBOTICS Camp! is appropriate for those interested in developing their problem solving and mechanical skills.

Dates: June 24-27, (M/T/W/Th), or July 8 – 11 (M/T/W/Th)

Robotics Engineering Camp – $163

Open to rising 10th – 12th graders

Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science all in one camp! Come take part and rebuild a FRC Robot. Learn to program the robot to drive autonomously!

Dates: July 22-25, (M/T/W/Th)

Biotechnology Camp – $83

Open to rising 7th – 9th graders

Explore biotechnology with a focus on careers. Learn about microbial organisms, working in biotechnology companies such as Grifols and Novo Nordisk, bioengineering, drug therapies and so much more!

Chef in Training: Cooking Camp – $103

Learn basic cooking techniques from an experienced chef. Ask questions, experiment with tastes, but most of all have FUN!  *Food allergies need to be brought to camp attention prior to camp start.

Mad Scientist: Science Camp – $163

Open to rising 6th – 8th graders

Campers will be fully engaged with interactive experiments teaching both practical and amazing science lessons. Campers will explore the world of chemical reactions, harness the power of the sun to create tasty treats, unleash the awesomeness of the scientific method, and much, much more! *Food allergies need to be brought to camp attention prior to camp start.

Howell Woods Summer Camp – $125

Open to ages 8 to 12

Campers will explore the Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center property and learn many topics and activities related to environmental education including ecological footprints, low ropes course, geocaching, tree and plant ID, birds of prey, animal tracks, fishing, kayaking, camping and more!
