Suspect Shot By Deputy Released From Hospital, Jailed On Drug Charges

BENSON – A man shot in the wrist by a Johnston County deputy sheriff last week is out of the hospital and in the Johnston County Jail. On May 5th, Johnston County deputies, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, NC SBI and federal ATF agents were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Oshea Lavont Massey of Ammons Road, Dunn.

During an incident outside a home in the 400 block of E. Branch Street in Benson, Massey was shot once. The NC SBI confirmed they later located a gun at the scene.

At the time of the incident, officers from the four agencies were attempting to serve arrest warrants on the 24 year-old man. Massey was treated and released at WakeMed. After his release he was charged with the outstanding warrants that include possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver heroin, possession of a firearm by a felon, conspiracy to sell or deliver heroin, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, and conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana.

Massey is being held on a $485,000 bond on the state charges. He is also being held on a federal detainer for pending federal charges.
