A Johnston County man was arrested after deputies and firefighters responded to a woods fire. Around 6:40pm Sunday, crews responded to the fire between the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Ridge Road.
After extinguishing the fire, with the help of the NC Forestry Service, personnel found a suspicious person in the woods.
Deputies said the man, 50 year-old Billy Wayne Champion of Ridge Road, Angier had drug paraphernalia and a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession. Champion was arrested on drug charges and transported to the Johnston County Jail where he was held under a $25,000 secured bond.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
