A Four Oaks teenager is recovering from serious injuries after being shot in the buttocks while in Smithfield. The shooting happened Sunday afternoon at a home on Ray Drive, off Yelverton Grove Road just east of I-95.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said the 18 year-old was standing under a carport where a rifle had been propped up next to a table. The rifle fell to the ground and discharged, striking the victim in the buttocks, according to Detective Lt. Don Pate with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
The teen was transported by Johnston County EMS to Wake Medical Center for treatment of a serious but non-life threatening injury. Officials said the shooting was accidental. No charges are expected to be filed.
