More thefts have been reported from new home construction sites in Johnston County. On Wednesday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said they received reports that property had been taken from six homes being built on Mariners Point, Roundtree Drive, and Horizon Ridge Way in the Cleveland community.
Among the items stolen were windows, doors, countertops, $2,400 worth of shingles and $4,400 worth of wiring.
Last week, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a search warrant in Raleigh recovering items taken from 4 of 10 new home sites.
The latest thefts bring the total to 16 sites that have been hit by thieves in the past few weeks.
Johnston County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said Thursday that detectives are working on several leads in the cases. Captain Caldwell said it appears there may be two different rings of suspects stealing the items.
