BENSON – A tractor trailer driver may have suffered a blowout of his right front tire as he headed northbound on Interstate 95 at the 78 mile marker near Benson around 6:00pm Sunday.
The driver, who was hauling a load of green peppers, crashed into the end cap of a jersey barrier, then rode on top of the barrier. His truck caught fire before blocking both northbound lanes.
The driver suffered only minor injuries. Traffic was backed up for several hours following the single vehicle crash just south of the Highway 50 Benson exit (Exit 79).
According to authorities, this was the third tractor-trailer crash in the same area on Interstate 95 today. There was another semi truck accident in nearly the same location Saturday.
