Troopers Identify Driver Killed In Single Vehicle Accident

ANGIER – The State Highway Patrol has released the identity of a driver killed in a single vehicle accident in the 3000 block of Benson Road near the Harnett-Johnston County line. The wreck was reported at 11:39pm Sunday, July 31.

The Highway Patrol said Juan Carlos Miguel Gonzalez, age 27, of Angier was operating a 2004 Ford passenger car eastbound on Benson Road when he ran off the roadway to the left, struck a ditch, utility pole, and a tree before the vehicle came to rest. Gonzalez, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

A passenger was transported to WakeMed where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The name of the passenger was not released.

Power lines fell across the roadway following the overnight crash. Utility crews responded to repair the damaged utility pole and electrical lines.

The cause of the fatal accident remains under investigation by Trooper G.C. Middlebrooks. The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, Harnett County EMS, and Angier Black River Fire Department responded.
