Troopers Identify Driver Killed In US 701 Collision

NEWTON GROVE – The State Highway Patrol says speed and failure to wear a seat belt were contributing factors in a fatal accident early this morning (Sunday).

The collision was reported at 12:55 a.m. on US 701 near Cedar Point Road, about two miles south of Newton Grove, in Sampson County.

According to troopers, a 2015 Dodge Charger was traveling north on US 701 at a high rate of speed when the driver traveled off the road to the right, struck the ditch, and overturned several times in a soybean field.

The unrestrained driver was ejected from the vehicle and died.

The driver was identified as 30 year-old Jose Angel Jimenez-Lopes of Main Street, Newton Grove.
