Troopers Identify Victims Killed In Traffic Crash

The NC Highway Patrol has released the names of two people who died in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 40 near Benson on Wednesday morning.

Trooper said 61 year-old Lauressa Hargrove of Fayetteville was driving a 2003 Ford SUV eastbound at 9:20am when the vehicle ran off the interstate near the 325 mile marker, struck a ditch and tree before overturning.  Mrs. Hargrove and a front seat passenger, 39 year-old David Hargrove of Fayetteville died at the scene.

A 12 year-old back seat passenger, Azure Hargrove, was taken to Wake Medical Center with minor injuries.  Troopers said Lauressa Hargrove was the child’s grandmother and David Hargrove was her uncle.

Authorities said the driver and child were restrained however David Hargrove was not wearing a seat belt. Speed and alcohol were not factors.

At last report, funeral arrangements for the two victims were still incomplete.  Worley Funeral Home of Clinton is handling the arrangements. A website for the funeral home listed the victims addresses as Clinton and not Fayetteville as reported by the Highway Patrol.  Photo courtesy ABC 11
