Two people were killed in a head on collision Wednesday night in Harnett County. The deadly crash was reported at 9:17pm on Highway 27 about eight miles west of Lillington.
First Sgt. S.F. Cotton with the State Highway Patrol in Harnett County said a 2014 Hyundai passenger car driven by Tracie Herrick, 45, of Lillington was traveling westbound on Highway 27. The Hyundai crossed the centerline and struck head on an eastbound 2002 Chevy pickup driven by Richard Mainor, 86, of Lillington. Both drivers died at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Sgt. Cotton said inattention contributed to the fatal collision but added that speed, alcohol and cell phone use were not a factor.
The roadway was shut down for several hours while the accident was investigated.
