BENSON, N.C. — Two individuals were arrested after authorities say they unlawfully moved into a vacant home in the Benson area.

The incident was reported around 11:11 p.m. on April 17, when the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Raynor Road.

According to deputies, the home is part of an estate currently being settled and was not occupied. The reporting party told authorities that someone had moved into the residence without permission and had even turned on electrical service at the property. Investigators confirmed no lease had been signed and no one had authorization to be at the home.

Jason Adair Grimes, 48, of Benson, and Haleigh Victoria Hare, 19, of Selma, were both charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering. Grimes was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, while Hare was served with a misdemeanor probation violation warrant.

  1. I sure hope they don’t let them out on the street again, especially with the drugs that they were hiding.
After all the work, the police officers do to get these criminals, put them in jail and then a judge let them out on the street when they’ve been arrested for all the drug paraphernalia they had this is happening too. It’s too prevalent. There’s too many people recently in Selma area that had all the fentanyl and they let them out. They let them out back on the street and they’re all living together in one house and they’re all making their drugs. It’s disgraceful and children are dying because they’re giving it to them and they’re very close to a school district which is impossible. What is wrong with the judges of today?

    • It’s the Magistrates in this county that are the Problem. I see them all the time with those Public Enemy charges and then the Magistrate lets them off with a tap on the wrist, yeah not even a slap or a Belt, or even a switch to their behinds.
Maybe we should look into getting them out of office and get someone in there that upholds the will of The People.

    • Nobody suggest that but you.

The problem is letting folks go time and time again, with no consequences.

  2. Be thankful the sheriffs office was able to remove these yoyo’s quickly and return control of the property to those representing the owners. Considerably better than some others in the news. Glad to know they’re aware of right from wrong and speedily got it done.
