Two People Arrested During Benson-Area Traffic Stop

BENSON – Two people were arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop. On April 21, a SAFE team deputy stopped a vehicle reportedly displaying a fictitious license plate on Tarheel Road near NC Highway 50.

During the traffic stop, authorities said they found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver was also charged with driving while impaired.

The driver, Nicholas Allen Lee, age 40, of the 2300 block of NC Highway 210, Smithfield, was charged with DWI, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, open container of alcohol, driving on a revoked license, and fictitious registration/tag. He was given a $4,500 bond.

A passenger, Heather Nicole Townsend, age 39, of Ashe Avenue, Dunn was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was given a $2,500 bond at the Johnston County Detention Center.
