Upcoming Improvements For Wake County Roads

RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $4.7 million contract to Fred Smith Co. to improve more than 22 miles of roadway in Wake County.

The project will include milling, resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on five sections of primary roads and 26 sections of secondary roads.

The primary roads to be improved are:

  • N.C. 96 (Zebulon Road) from U.S. 401 to N.C. 98
  • N.C. 96 (Zebulon Road) from Skeet Drive to U.S. 401
  • Capital Boulevard (U.S.1) in both directions from Thornton Road to Jacqueline Lane
  • Creedmoor Road (N.C. 50) from Baily Farm Road to Norwood Road.

Work may begin this spring and is expected to be completed by late fall 2027.
