JOHNSTON COUNTY – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect who reportedly tried to rob and carjack a man in a business parking lot. The suspect apparently didn’t realize his intended target was armed with a handgun and shot the robber in self defense.
Dominic Dion Robinson, age 19, of United Street, Garner was arrested April 14 and charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.
On March 29, Robinson is alleged to have gone to the Speedway convenience store / Wendy’s restaurant parking lot at 5170 Veterans Parkway (formerly NC 42 West) near Interstate 40.
Robinson approached a man in the parking lot and pointed a firearm in an attempt to reportedly steal his car, cellphone and cash, according to arrest warrants.
The victim pulled out his own gun and shot Robinson in self defense.
The teen was rushed to WakeMed for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Smithfield Police took Robinson into custody on April 14. While serving the warrants at the Johnston County Magistrate’s Office, officers said he refused to cooperate with the magistrate and attempted multiple times to walk out of the courtroom. At one point he “bulked up” to an officer and began to fight, causing detention staff to respond and place Robinson in a restraint chair.
Police subsequently charged him with resist delay and obstruct. The magistrate found Robinson in contempt of court and order him jailed for 15 days.
His bond was set at $210,000 on the three criminal charges. At last report, Robinson was still in the Johnston County Detention Center unable to post bail.
The victim will not face any criminal charges for shooting the 19 year-old robbery suspect.
(Editor’s Note: A mugshot of Dominic Robinson was unavailable)
Sounds like a textbook case of FAFO. For you other depraved morons out there planning on acting up like this, take note. People aren’t playing with you anymore.
Another teen thinking the world is his. Doubtful but hopefully he learns his lesson before he ends up dead.
Good for the guy that was prepared
Always carry…there are plenty more like Robinson out there who will do the same to you!
I feel that if this 19-year-old is acting like this now then there is no hope for him. To me it’s a shame that the victim did not finish off the job. Mama said that all the good people should learn to carry.
Too bad the first hot brass didn’t kill him. Maybe the next one will!
