Troopers Still Searching For Witnesses Or Anyone Who Has Additional Information
JoCoReport.com has obtained home security video that shows a fatal Johnston County car crash.
On March 11th, the NC Highway Patrol said Edgar Wayne Warren was killed after his Ford Explorer struck the rear of a pickup truck on Stevens Chapel Road east of Smithfield. The SUV then ran off the roadway and overturned, ejecting Warren who was not wearing a seat belt. He died at the scene. Troopers said alcohol was a contributing factor. A passenger in the SUV sustained non-life threatening injuries.
According to investigators, the pickup truck had spun donuts in Warren’s front yard on Stevens Chapel Road and left the scene. Warren got into his SUV and chased after the truck. The truck did not stop at the scene of the crash.
Sgt. J.L. January with the NC Highway Patrol told JoCoReport the pickup truck was located last week and seized. Troopers were able to locate and question the driver of the pickup. The driver was released without being charged at the time pending further investigation by the Highway Patrol and Johnston County District Attorney’s Office.
Anyone who may have additional information about the fatal crash is asked to contact the Highway Patrol District Office in Smithfield at 919-934-2186.
Funeral services for the 38 year-old victim were held March 17th.
