The Johnston County Board of Elections will recount votes in a District Court judicial race. Jason P. Kimble led Brian Lewis by 126 votes for the Republican nomination for District Court Judge District 11 (Seat 3) following the May 17 primary.
When provisional ballots were later tabulated and included, the difference narrowed to only 92 votes out of 28,004 total ballots cast across Johnston, Harnett and Lee counties. In unofficial results, Kimble received 14,048 votes to Lewis’ 13,956 across the three counties.
Mr. Lewis requested a recount in all the counties.
In Harnett County, Kimble received 3273 votes to 4322 for Lewis. In Lee County, Kimble had 814 votes and Lewis 2459. Harnett and Lee counties are conducting their recounts today (Thursday).
In Johnston County, Kimble had 9961 votes compared to 7175 for Lewis. Johnston County will conduct their recount on Monday, June 6th at 8:30am at the Elections Satellite Office at 801 S. Third Street in Smithfield.
The recount is open to the public.
