Saturday morning, Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker and members of his agency hosted 17 children during their annual “Shop with the Sheriff” event. It was held at Walmart on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.
Sheriff Baker and his deputies assisted children who needed a little joy due to various family issues this Christmas including the father of a 5-year-old and 7-month-old who lost his job as a church musician and is finding it difficult to provide the Christmas joy he says his kids deserve.
The aunt of a 12-year-old says her niece lost her mother to cancer several years ago and this year lost her father from a heart attack and requested assistance in helping her niece have a normal Christmas. Deputies did not disappoint the little girl and the other children today who all left with lots of presents.
This is the second event sponsored by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office this month. Deputies just completed a successful gift drive that netted close to 600 items, including toys, clothes and bikes for deserving children through the Salvation Army’s “Angel Tree” program.
